Bud added, “I know what the coroner’s report said, that Dan died of natural causes, but Howie, something just keeps telling me there was more going on, and maybe it contributed to his death.”

“It sure seems like it, Sheriff. That Spud guy seems kind of suspicious to me. And that eggnog stuff? We need to go back down there. But like you said earlier, it’s not your jurisdiction.”

Howie grinned, then added, “But you’ve never let that stop you before, have you?”

Bud had to agree, though he wasn’t sure how it made him feel. He had a penchant for figuring things out, and it was irrelevant where these things were, he just liked solving mysteries.

But maybe it was time to stay home and do his job in Emery County. It was almost time for the melon harvest, and even though his hired farm manager, Kale, was competent, it was possible Bud’s help would be needed, and if he was galavanting around the Henry Mountains, it might create some problems.

“Hey, Sheriff,” Howie said. “I can use this documentary for economic development, to bring businesses to Green River, if I do it right.”

“I guess that would be a possibility,” Bud replied.

Howie replied, “But I need to get to work. By the way, I overheard your wife and my wife talk about going to Grand Junction for a few days to take a class in making wedding cakes. Are you aware you’re going to be batchin’ it? Maybe you should call Doc and get him to come over.”

Bud groaned as Howie nodded goodbye and walked out the door.
